Recent commissions! (AND A GIFT)

I’ve only drawn Blix once before this (I draw Carmen more than any of the Morphkind cast) so he was a really refreshing project.

One story idea I’ve had for Morphkind is displacing the characters from their own setting into a completely different one. My first idea was having them in some kind of fantasy setting by way of a tabletop RPG but I realized that I don’t actually… have any characters that would play that kind of tabletop game???
My next idea was to have it be a sci-fi tabletop RPG, one owned by Carmen. She asks Chrias, Blix, and Fei Lin to play it with her when her usual TTRPG buddies can’t make it.
This scenario presented 2 problems:
- I would have to somehow imply or introduce friends outside of the workplace that I’ve never mentioned Carmen ever having before. While avoiding this seems kind of lazy, the truth is that it is because I have all this time to develop characters individually but don’t really ever specify their social lives because secretly I’m a hack writer!
- I have absolutely fuck-all knowledge about how tabletop RPGs work.
It didn’t take me long to figure out exactly what I could do: I’ve established via Twitter and Tumblr posts that the Star Fox series has been adapted to film in the world of Morphkind. It’s Carmen’s absolute favorite sci-fi series of all time and she collects literally every piece of merchandise and paraphernalia she can get her little chameleon hands on. Its prevalence in society and culture essentially makes it the Star Wars/Star Trek of the Morphkind universe.
And hey, both of those series now have MMOs!
The idea for this short arc (likely an intermission arc to take place between “books”) would be that the Star Fox MMORPG is finally released publicly and Carmen has spent her paycheck buying copies and timecards for Chrias, Blix, and Fei Lin. When they make their characters and sign in, Carmen takes it upon herself to show them the ropes as she’s been playing since the closed beta months prior and has leveled her character like crazy (meaning she had hit the pre-release level cap). Rather than choose a character suiting her real-life skills as an infiltration specialist, she chooses a much more assault-like class since it allows her to model her armor after her favorite character, Wolf O’Donnell.
And of course, they’d all have their “MMO names,” included in the doodle above.

(I mostly wanted to do this to draw Doodle!Blix but he ended up looking kind of… bluhguh in most panels. 0/10 would likely not draw again.)
Over the last few months I have commissioned (well the middle one’s a request but still) a bunch of chibified versions of Morphkind characters from Miss-Chimera, aka rose-et-vert, aka Jazzy. And they are all just adorable.
